Jacob of Edessa ( sir. ܝܥܩܘܒ ܐܘܪܗܝܐ ) (c. 633-708) - Syrian Christian writer of the VII century, Bishop of Edessa. Born near Antioch, he took monastic vows in Chalcis . He was educated in Alexandria, studying the works of Aristotle and John Philopon . Upon returning to his homeland in 684 he became a bishop, but after 4 years he left his post. Known for his exegetical works and liturgical works.
