Biography
Maternal was a descendant of Christopher Polham . When he was 3 years old, his father died.
Since 1865 he studied at Uppsala University . In 1871 he received a bachelor's degree. He worked as an assistant to the historians Henrik Reiterdahl and William Swedelius .
In May 1872, O. Alin defended his doctoral dissertation. He became an assistant professor of political science, and in 1882 - professor of rhetoric and political science at Uppsala University .
In 1876-1882, Alin, in addition to his work at the university, headed the Uppsala Higher Elementary School for Girls. Among his students was Victoria Baden , the wife of the King of Sweden, Gustav V (the future Queen of Sweden in 1907-1930, the mother of the King of Sweden, Gustav VI Adolf , whom he taught the history and culture of Sweden . In addition, he was a teacher with Oscar Bernadotte and Karl Shvedsky .
Member of the conservative protectionist party. Since 1888 - Member of the lower house of the Swedish Parliament . In 1899 he left the Riksdag , a year before his death he was elected rector of Uppsala University (1899-1900).
