Biography

Born October 22, 1937 in Moscow.

In 1964, he graduated from the 2nd Moscow Medical Institute , then worked as an assistant at the Department of Hospital Therapy of the Faculty of Medicine.

From 1971 to 1980 - worked at the Department of Hospital Therapy of the Moscow Medical Dental Institute .

From 1980 to 2006 - head of the cardiology department of the Joint Special Hospital with a polyclinic of the Fourth Main Directorate under the USSR Ministry of Health, head doctor of the Central Clinical Hospital , head of the Medical Center of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation.

Since 2002 - Head of the Department of Hospital Therapy No. 1, Faculty of Medicine, Moscow Medical and Dental University , currently a professor at the University.

Since 2006 - Deputy General Director for Science and New Technologies of the Medical Center of the Office of the Mayor and the Government of Moscow.

In 1994 - was elected a corresponding member of RAMS .

In 1995 - was elected an academician of the RAMS .

From 1995 to 2001 - Vice President of RAMS.

In 2013, he became an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (as part of the accession of the RAMS and RAAS to the RAS ).

Scientific activity

A specialist in the field of clinical physiology and fundamental medicine, a doctor of the highest category in the specialties of therapy and cardiology.

He conducts research in the areas of connective tissue dysplasia, arterial hypertension, gerontological aspects of internal diseases, as well as the study of painless myocardial ischemia, sleep disturbances in arterial hypertension, metabolic effects of antihypertensive therapy, and diastolic heart function.

He proposed a system of primary and secondary prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, participated in the development of a set of measures for monitoring patients after heart surgery (coronary artery bypass grafting, balloon angioplasty, valve prosthetics), treatment and rehabilitation of patients after myocardial infarction, as well as patients with complex rhythm and conduction disturbances.

The author of 367 publications and 18 monographs, manuals, books, textbooks, reference books, methodological recommendations and study guides. The author of the two-volume “Internal Medicine”, recognized as the best textbook on therapy for medical schools.

Under his leadership, 7 doctoral and 26 master's theses were defended.
