The Liege revolution , sometimes referred to as the Happy Revolution ( French: Heureuse Révolution , Walloon. Binamêye revolucion ), began on August 18, 1789 and led to the abolition of the Republic of Liege and the temporary restoration of the rights of Prince Bishop of Liege by Austrian forces in 1791 . The Liege revolution took place in parallel with the French Revolution , which eventually led to the end of the existence of the Liege bishopric and the annexation of Liege by the French revolutionary forces in 1795 .
