History

1849 - 1917

A sugar factory in the village of Talnoe in the Uman district of the Kiev province of the Russian Empire was built by Count P. Shuvalov in 1849 [1] [3] [4] .

In the following decades, production volumes and the number of workers at the plant increased, in 1885 270 people worked at the plant [3] .

After construction here in the early 1890s. the railway line Khristinovka - Tsvetkovo (the movement of which began in 1891), sugar sales markets increased. In 1898, the plant produced 250,207 pounds of sugar [3] .

During the first Russian revolution in May 1907, sugar factory workers supported a strike by workers and artisans at agricultural workshops, demanding higher wages, better working conditions and shorter working hours on Saturday, resulting in a workers ’victory [3] .

In May 1917, a volost Council of workers', peasants' and soldiers' deputies was created in Talnoy, by the decision of which an 8-hour working day was introduced at enterprises and a minimum wage level was established [3] .

1918 - 1991

In February 1918, the representative office of the Provisional Government in Talnoye was liquidated and Soviet power was proclaimed, a detachment was created from the workers of the sugar factory, which took control of the enterprise, however, in March 1918, Talnoe was occupied by Austrian-German troops , who remained here until November 1918. Later, until the end of 1920, Talnoe remained in the combat zone of the civil war [3] .

In the spring of 1921, in order to provide sugar beets to Talnovsky and Maidanetskiy sugar factories in Talnoye, the Talnovsky state farm was created, to which 40 acres of land were allocated. In the fall of 1922, the restored Talnivsky sugar factory resumed operation; by the end of the year, it produced 140.5 thousand pounds of granulated sugar [3] .

In accordance with the first plan for the development of the national economy of the USSR, the production capacity of the plant was increased and a railway line from Talnoe station was brought to the enterprise [3] .

During World War II, from July 29, 1941 to March 9, 1944, the city was under German occupation , before the retreat, German troops destroyed the sugar factory [3] .

After the war, the sugar factory was restored and resumed operation, and a sugar factory factory club was also built in Talnoye [3] .

In accordance with the seven-year plan for the development of the national economy (1959-1965), the Talnovsky sugar factory was reconstructed [3] and transformed into the Talnovsky sugar factory [5] .

In the sugar season of 1970/1971, the plant produced 400.9 thousand quintals of granulated sugar, while the production capacity of the enterprise processed 2 thousand tons of sugar beet root crops per day [3] .

In general, in Soviet times, the sugar factory was one of the leading enterprises of the city [3] [5] [6] , in 1991 it was one of the largest among 24 sugar factories in the territory of Cherkasy region [7] .

After 1991

After the independence of Ukraine, the plant was transferred to the State Committee for Food Industry of Ukraine.

In July 1995, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a decision on the privatization of Talnivsky sugar plant [8] . Subsequently, the state-owned enterprise was transformed into an open joint-stock company and renamed the Talnovsky sugar factory.

In 2005, the plant became the property of SEV AGRO LLC. In December 2010, the company was bought by Panda LLC [7] [9] .

Since 2013, Talnovsky sugar factory has been one of two existing sugar factories in the territory of Cherkasy region [10] .

In 2015, the plant did not function [11] , but subsequently resumed operation [2] [7] .
