James Lawrence Lockhart ( born James Lawrence Lockhart ; born October 16, 1930 , Edinburgh ) is a Scottish conductor.
He studied at the University of Edinburgh , then graduated from the Royal College of Music . He worked as a tutor at the Münster City Theater (1955-1956), then as an assistant conductor at the Bavarian Opera . In 1957-1959 He led an opera workshop at the University of Texas at Austin . Then until 1968 Assistant in Covent Garden , 1968-1972 musical director of the Welsh National Opera . In the years 1972-1978. led the Kassel opera, becoming the first British to head the opera house in Germany. In 1981-1991 He headed the Orchestra of the Rhine Philharmonic , and until 1988 also the Koblenz Opera. At the same time in 1986-1992. headed the opera department of the Royal College of Music.
He recorded several albums with Margaret Price , accompanying her not only at the head of the London Symphony Orchestra , but also as a pianist. He also made several recordings in Koblenz (including Karl Ditters von Dittersdorf 's opera The Doctor and the Pharmacist) and Kassel.
