Biography
Born August 29, 1884 in a farmer's family in present Angermuende , Brandenburg . After attending a school in the village, a 16-year-old boy left home, received a commercial education, worked at sea, and also worked as a journalist in several newspapers in Braunschweig . For some time, Welk also taught at the University of Greifswald .
