Dunlavy is one of the representatives of the American school of "black humor", a postmodern branch of American prose. The greatest (and scandalous) fame brought him the novel "The Man with the Light" ("The Ginger Man"). This novel was started by Dunlavy already when he was a student, but all attempts to publish it in Ireland and America turned out to be a failure. American publishers unanimously rejected the novel, "finding it a dirty book, unreadable and obscene." “The Man with the Light” was published only in 1955 in Paris. The Russian reader also knows the novel “A Fairy Tale of New York”.
