Moscow Cavalry Division

The 1st Moscow Cavalry Division was a combination of cavalry of the Red Army , created during the Civil War in Russia of 1918-1920 . It was a maneuverable tool in the hands of the front and army command for solving operational and tactical tasks.

The history of the formation of the division

Georgy Zhukov , lieutenant-general of the 3rd Dragoon Novotroitsk-Yekaterinoslav Regiment, in November 1917 elected commander of the 4th Dragoon Regiment, then he was elected commander of the 4th Cavalry Division , from which he was elected delegate to the 1st Army Congress. The remnants of the division brought to the Donets Basin , where dragoons , lancers and arrows under the direction of G. V. Zhukov took part in the first battles with the Whites , took Taganrog and Rostov . In the spring of 1918, the cadres of the division were transferred to Moscow , where the 1st Moscow Cavalry Division was formed from them, GV Zhukov conducted the entire Civil War as a commissar of this division.

The Moscow Cavalry Division was formed on the basis of the order of the Supreme Military Council N 54 of June 19, 1918 on the territory of the Moscow Military District from the volunteers of the 2nd Cavalry Division of the old army under the name of the cavalry division of the Moscow Military District [1] [2] .

On September 10, 1918, the division was renamed the Moscow Cavalry Division [2] .

The headquarters of the cavalry division was located in the village of Nikolo-Pererva [2] .

From October 8, 1918, the headquarters of the cavalry division was located in Moscow ( Bolshoi Kozlovsky pereulok , 4) [2] .

The compound consisted of four regiments [2] .
