John Tanton ( born John H. Tanton ; February 23, 1934 - July 16, 2019 ) is an American ophthalmologist , activist, advocate for the reduction of US immigration . He is one of the founders and chairmen of the anti-immigration organization: Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR). He chaired US English (organization) and ProEnglish. Founder of Social Contract Press, which publishes the quarterly magazine The Social Contract . Founder of the pro- eugenic organization Society for Genetic Education [1] [2] .

Biography
Born in 1934 in Detroit. In 1945, the family moved to a farm northeast of Bay City, Michigan.
In 1956, he received a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Michigan State University, in 1960 - a doctorate in medicine from the University of Michigan, and in 1964 - a master's degree in ophthalmology from the University of Michigan.
He led an ophthalmic practice in Petoskey, Michigan.
Political Activities
Tanton is a supporter of the reduction of immigration to the United States. Founder and patron of many anti-immigration non-profit organizations. He founded the Petoskey branches at the Sierra Club and Planned Parenthood, and for some time became the national president of Zero Population Growth. Unable to secure the support of colleges, in 1979 he founded the nonprofit Federation of American Immigration Reform (FAIR) with the support of Warren Buffett and Eugene McCarthy. By 1983, he co-founded US English.
In addition, Tanton was a co-founder and actively participated in the American Immigration Control Fund, American Patrol / Voices of Citizens Together, American Patrol / Voices of Citizens Together and ProjectUSA. Donations come from US Inc., [8] [9], which also supports the Scenic Michigan, International Dark-Sky Association, Foreign Policy Association's Great Decisions Series, and the Harbor Springs chapter of the North Country Trail Association. Tanton is on the Board of Directors of Population-Environment Balance.
In 1990, Tanton founded the Social Contract Press. In addition, since 1998 he has been editor-in-chief of The Social Contract magazine.
Family
Married to Mary Lou Tanton. She leads the US Immigration Reform PAC. She is also the first vice president of Scenic Michigan.
