Cavernometry ( lat. Caverna - cave, cavity + ... metric ) - determination of the dependence of the diameter of the well on its depth using special measuring equipment. One of the methods of geophysical research of wells . Cavernometry is performed by special instruments, for example lever cavernometers .
To clarify the geological section of the well and to detect reservoirs, cavernograms are used (curves of changes in the diameter of the well along its bore). They make it possible to monitor the condition of the wellbore during drilling; identify intervals favorable for the installation of sealing devices; determine the amount of cement required to seal the annulus during casing of the pipe string.
