Content
Etymology
The name comes from Shamsi’s personal name and the word “abad” (village) [1] . The name means “village of Shamsi”.
According to local legends, the village was founded by a man named Shamsi.
History
The village of Shamsabad in 1913, according to the administrative-territorial division of the Elizavetpol province, belonged to the Aral rural society of Areshsk district [2] .
In 1926, according to the administrative-territorial division of the Azerbaijan SSR, the village belonged to the Daira of Laki Agdash district.
After the reform of the administrative division and the abolition of the counties in 1929, the Shamsabad village council was formed in the Agdash district of the Azerbaijan SSR .
According to the administrative division of 1961 and 1977, the village of Shamsabad was part of the Shamsabad village council of the Agdash district of the Azerbaijan SSR [3] [4] .
In 1999, an administrative reform was carried out in Azerbaijan and the Shamsabad municipality of Agdash region was established within the administrative and territorial district [5] .
Geography
The village is located 14 km from the district center Agdash and 67 km from Baku . The nearest railway station is Laki.
The village is located at an altitude of 41 meters above sea level.

In 1886, 174 people lived in the village, all of them were Azeris, by religion they were Sunni Muslims.
The population is mainly engaged in cotton growing.

Infrastructure
In Soviet times, a dairy farm was located near the village [7] , and in the village itself there was a high school, a cultural center, a cinema, a library, and a medical center [8] .
