Imperial Technical College ( 工部 大 学校 , Imperial College of Engineering ) is a former higher technical educational institution in Japan . Located in Tokyo . The college was opened in 1873, its goal was to teach Japanese students "Western" technical and natural sciences. The first head of the college was the Scottish engineer Henry Dyer.

College teachers included Jasiah Conder (architect), Edward Divers (chemist) and William Edward Ayrton (physicist, electrical engineer).
In 1886, the college became part of the University of Tokyo .
Curriculum
Dyer made the first college curriculum. In accordance with it, the training program was divided into three courses, each of which lasted two years. The first course was called "General" (General), the second - technical (Technical), the third - practical (Practice).
The college had seven departments: mining, metallurgy, telegraphy, mechanics, chemistry, civil engineering, architecture. The program later underwent some changes.
The teaching was conducted in English. Students were also required to write abstracts and dissertations in English. Some of them can be seen at the National Museum of Nature and Science (new building 2F, second floor) .
