Biography

At the age of ten, he began to play football in the system of Setubal Vitoria . Then, from 1998 to 1999, he played for O Sidicato. In 1999, he entered the Alverka club system.

For some time, in 2001, he acted on a leasehold basis for Lourinhanense . As part of the team, he played in the Portuguese Cup against Oriental (0: 2) [2] . After a short-term lease, Manu returned to Alverka. The debut in the Portuguese championship took place in the final round of the 2001/02 season against Braga . The head coach of the team, Victor Manuel, released Manu at the beginning of the second half, and at the 85th minute he scored a goal, however, despite this, Alverka lost with the score (3: 5) [3] . The team at the end of the season took the last place in the championship and flew to the lower division . Under the guidance of coach Jose Couceiro, Alaverca became the silver medalist of the second league and returned to the top division of Portuguese football. Manu was not a starting lineup player this season. In November 2003, he was again leased to Lorinhanense and played one game in the Portuguese Cup [4] . Following the results of the 2003/04 season, Alaverca again left the Portuguese championship.

In the summer of 2004, the midfielder became a player in the Lisbon Benfica . The young footballer was immediately leased to the Italian Modena . The debut in Serie B took place on September 13, 2004 in the game against Genoa (1: 1) [5] . During a six-month performance at Modena, the midfielder scored a goal in the Italian Cup game against Treviso (2: 1) [6] . He spent the second half of the 2004/05 season at the Carpenedolo club from Series C2 (the fourth most powerful Italian league). In the 2005/06 season, he acted on loan for Estrel Amador under the leadership of Antoni Conceisau , where he was the main player.

After returning from rental at Estrell, Benfica's coach Fernando Santos decided to leave Manu on the team. The player took part in the Champions League qualification games against Austria and Copenhagen . In the 2006/07 season, “Benfica” gets the third place in the championship, and Manu is only a reserve player. At the end of August 2007, the midfielder went on an annual lease to the Greek AEK with the right to buy back at the end of the lease for 1.5 million euros [7] . Manu took part in the qualification of the UEFA Cup , but the team was unable to qualify for the group round. In the championship of Greece AEK under the leadership of Lorenzo Serra Ferrera won bronze awards.

In July 2008, together with and from Benfica, he signed a two-year contract with the club Maritimo , which was strengthened before performances in the UEFA Cup [8] . He scored his first goal for the new team on October 7, 2008 in a match against Vitoria (2-0) [9] . On November 1, 2009, in a match against the Lisbon Sporting , Manu scored a goal from 30 meters [10] . Following the results of the 2009/10 season , Maritimo took fifth place and received the right to play in the Europa League . For two seasons, Manu has been a player in the starting lineup.

On July 9, 2010, he signed a three-year contract with the Warsaw Legia , becoming the fourth newcomer to the Polish club in the summer off-season [11] . The debut for “Legia” took place on August 13, 2010 in the match of the championship of Poland against “ Polonia ” (0: 3) [12] . Following the results of the first season, the team became the bronze medalist of the championship and the winner of the Polish Cup , where Legia defeated Lech in the penalty shootout in the final [13] . The following season, Manu lost his place in the first team and at the end of the 2011/12 season , in which Legia again won the bronze championship, left the Polish team.

In December 2011, he signed a contract with the Chinese club " Beijing Guoan " [14] . As part of the new team, Manu was not the main player, however, he won bronze medals with him. After this season, the football player leaves China and is a free agent for a year, until January 2014, when he signs a contract with the Cypriot Ermis . Together with the team, Manu reaches the final of the Cyprus Cup , where his team is inferior to APOEL (0: 2) and takes fourth place in the national championship . In the summer of 2014, Manu returns to his homeland in Portugal, where he joins Vitoria from Setubal. In January 2015, Manu again signed a contract with Ermis [15] . At the end of the 2014/15 season, the team does not win a place in European competition and the midfielder moves to another Paphos club in Cyprus, which helps him take second place in the second division and will return to the elite division of Cypriot football.

In the summer of 2018, Manu joins Kartash , who plays in the fourth strongest Portuguese league, after which, in December of the same year, he joins Vilafranquense from the third strongest league in the country.
