History

Portrait of Alexander Griboedov

In the hotel’s next door to Griboedov [2] there lived a wandering officer of the Dragoon division, Orthodox spiritual writer A. N. Muravyov , who, in the book “Acquaintance with Russian Poets” [3], said that “Griboedov was depressed in Simferopol and led a closed the way of life seemed inaccessible ” [4] .

This mood of isolation and alienation is noticeable in his correspondence. In a letter to his cousin and Decembrist S. N. Begichev, he wrote [5] :

... all century I wish somewhere to find a corner for privacy, and there is none for me anywhere. I’m coming here, I don’t see anyone, I don’t know and I don’t want to know. This lasted no more than a day ... burst into me, showered with greetings, and the small town made me sick of Petersburg. Not only that. Travelers came who know me from magazines: the writer Famusov and Skalozub, therefore, a cheerful person. Ugh, villainy! Yes, I'm sad, bored, disgusting, unbearable!

After resting and getting to know the city, A. S. Griboedov in one of his letters to Petersburg called the city “rubbish town”, the poet examined the surroundings of Simferopol. During a trip near Gurzuf, the writer met with the Polish poet Adam Mickiewicz . He visited Alushta , Alupka , Simeiz , Baidara , Balaklava , Inkerman , Sevastopol , Khersones , Mangup-Kale , Bakhchisarai , Assumption Monastery. July 8-9, returned to Simferopol

A memorial plaque was installed on this building; it survived several significant redevelopments. At the beginning of the 21st century, several outbuildings appeared, on the ground floor there is a clothing store, the facade is hidden under a layer of illegal advertising.
