The Armed Forces of the Republic of Zambia ( eng. Zambian Defense Force , abbreviated ZDF) - a combination of ground forces, air forces and the Republican Guard, designed to protect the population, government and territorial integrity of the Republic of Zambia . Also the structure of the armed forces organizationally includes the presidential guard. Since Zambia is landlocked, there is no naval force in the country.

Ground Forces
The Department of Defense is under the jurisdiction of the Zambian Intelligence and Security Service (ZISS). Secretary of Defense Chama Davis (2016). The total number of personnel serving in the land forces is 20,000. There are specialized schools: armored vehicles, artillery, engineering troops and signalmen.

- Three infantry brigades ( Lusaka , Kabwe , Ndola )
- One Mechanized Regiment:
- 64th Tank Battalion
- 17th Mechanized Armored Reconnaissance Battalion
- Nine infantry battalions (including three reserve battalions)
- 10th Artillery Regiment:
- Battalion MLRS ( Kaleva )
- Two field artillery battalions ( Ndola )
- Special Forces Commando Battalion ( Ndola )
- One engineering regiment ( Mufulira )
- 6th building regiment
- Auxiliary units (logistics, transport, medicine, ammunition, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering).

Air Force
The Zambian Air Force is a military unit with a total staff of 1,600 personnel. Created by combining the Northern Rhodesian air wing and the Nyasaland Air Force.
Zambian air forces operate Lusaka International Airport. The air force had previously barely operating aircraft. Somewhat newer - Hongdu JL-8. In 2016, the first of six ordered a Chinese multi-purpose type aircraft was the L-15 shipped. A joint defense agreement was signed with the Republic of South Africa.
During 1999, eight Hongdu JL- 8 jet simulators were delivered to the Zambian Air Force from China, in 2006 two Xian MA60 and 5 Yak-12 transport simulators were delivered. In 2012, another 8 Hongdu JL-8s were received, as well as 4 Harbin Z-9 helicopters. Another 4 helicopters were delivered in 2013. In 2014–2016, 6 Hongdu L-15 supersonic fighter aircraft were received. 6 training aircraft were , 2 Alenia C-27 Spartan transport aircraft and 5 Mi-171 for police.
