Biography
In 1945 he entered the Faculty of Literature and Art History [4] of the University of Rome , studied under the guidance of Lionello Venturi and wrote a graduate work on Giorgio de Chirico [4] , but the university did not graduate [5] .
He was first known in artistic circles thanks to the activities of the art group in 1947-1951. In addition to Perilli, it included painters and , painter, sculptor and writer , painter and director , sculptor . They all met in the creative workshop of Renato Guttuso [6] .
The first solo exhibition was held in 1956 at the Palazzo Strozzi in Florence [4] .
On December 19, 2018, for the first time in Russia, a temporary exhibition of Perilli's works opened in the building of the General Staff building of the State Hermitage Museum : “Abstractionism in Italy. Achille Perilli. It includes 35 works of the artist, written in different periods of creativity. All works belong to the Umberto Mastroianni Museum , which is located in Rome.
Creativity
Achille Perilli is a representative of such a trend in art as abstract art. Artists of the art group "Form 1", of which Perilli was a representative, became the first painters who resorted to abstractionism in post-war Italy [6] . Their work was opposed to the official doctrines of the realistic and symbolic trends in art. Also, the group's work had social and political implications: an attempt to combine formalism with a Marxist ideology , of which artists were supporters [6] .
The main elements that Perilli uses when writing works are familiar to representatives of abstractionism. This is the use of lines, planes, various geometric objects, which in combination with contrasting colors form the space of Perilli canvases. In this way, the artist tries to overcome the “composite skeletons” of the previous art, trying to break out of the canvas and declare new architectural and color ideals with its inconsistent forms [6] .
Dmitry Ozerkov , head of the contemporary art department of the State Hermitage Museum , commented on the work of Achille Perilly: “Having learned a great deal from the heritage of the“ fathers ”of world abstraction, Kandinsky and Mondrian , Achille Perilly, however, constantly reproached the masters that they failed to overcome the “dictatorship of the center of the painting”, to abandon the “compositional balance”, thus, especially not having gone far away from the aesthetic norms of the Renaissance or the Baroque . In the works of Perilli himself, abstract structures live their own, only an understandable life for them, trying to break out of the canvas in general every now and then ” [7] .
