Layers of Fear: Inheritance

The player controls the daughter of the artist. She returns to the house, once her native, to sort out the past. The player explores an abandoned family mansion with a flashlight. Immediately during the study of the house, the heroine will be visited by childhood memories, which include gameplay elements. In these memoirs, depending on the actions of the player, the actions of the mother and father can be either positive or negative.

Since the daughter inherited the psychic deviations of the artist, the setting of the mansion in his memoirs is also subject to change and various illusions. As in the original game, the player can find various items that, when examined, will trigger dialogue memories. There are various drawings and notes that will reveal some moments of the past of the heroine and her parents. A search for objects is characteristic of memories, and for exploring a matured daughter at home.

The main character is the grown daughter of a distraught artist. She returns to the dilapidated house, where her difficult childhood passed. In trying to figure out the past, in the memories of her father, she wants to solve the important question for herself forever - whether she can forgive him or not. Exploring the empty mansion, the artist’s daughter recalls 7 events from her childhood.

As in the original game, in the add-on there are 3 endings that are influenced by the player’s actions.

The first ending . It is revealed if in the memoirs the actions of the heroine led to a supportive attitude towards her father. The girl enters the last room, her old bedroom, where she sees the legacy left by her father - her portrait with a flower. She realizes that this portrait is an apology to her for her gloomy and sad memories of her childhood. And her father, in fact, is a man who was driven to madness by longing and guilt. But the main reason is the house itself, in which the artist was persecuted by the mistakes made by him, which led to family tragedy. As a result, the girl forgives her father, takes the portrait and burns the mansion. In the last scene, a portrait with a flower hangs on the wall of the heroine’s house. Having become a mother, she is interested in the drawing of her daughter, after which she criticizes the choice of pink for the painted horse, as well as the heroine's father in her childhood. In the last frame, the portrait of the girl spreads out like paintings in a family mansion during the artist’s madness.

The second ending . It is revealed if, in the memoirs, the daughter's actions led to a negative attitude towards her father. The girl also goes into her old bedroom and sees her portrait with a flower. However, she sees it as an insufficient apology that speaks only of the artist’s complacency. Then she destroys the picture, hitting her on the dresser. In a fit of anger, she touches a lit candelabra that falls to the floor. Because of this, a fire starts in the last scene in the house, which leads to a collapse of the ceiling and the death of the heroine.

The third ending . Opens if 2 conditions are met. Firstly, all the actions of the heroine in her memoirs led to a supportive attitude towards the artist. Secondly, if the heroine finds all 9 of her drawings in the house, and also hangs them in the workshop and can rearrange them so that her portrait is obtained. When you turn off the flashlight, a hidden rat pattern will appear in the dark, showing a map of the house. It marks the place that the girl must find. She understands that this prompt was created by her father. And just what she finds and will be an inheritance. Passing the map, the heroine finds a covered canvas. The scene ends with the heroine: “Someone told me that the madness of my family is in the blood. Well, let". At the end of her words, she opens the canvas and watches on it the first layer, the same one from which her father began to create his masterpiece.
