It occurs in South America, the Caribbean and Jamaica [3] . In the USA, it was previously discovered only on the Florida Keys Islands ( Florida , USA ). Subsequently appeared in the continental district of Miami-Dade (Florida) [4] .
In 2017, the U.S. Embassy in Havana more than halved its staff when diplomats started complaining of headaches, nausea, and other symptoms that appeared when there was some penetrating sound in their homes and nearby hotels. A mysterious wave of malaise fueled rumors that embassy staff were victims of acoustic weapons. This assumption was reinforced when the Associated Press released an audio recording of high-frequency noise made by American personnel in Cuba.
However, in 2019, a new analysis of audio recordings showed how scientists in the United Kingdom and the United States now consider it to be a true source of piercing noise: the chirping of the Indian short-tailed cricket Anurogryllus celerinictus [2] .
