Igor Alexandrovich Kalyapin (born October 13, 1967, Gorky [1] ) is a Russian human rights defender . Chairman of the Committee against Torture interregional public organization, member of the Presidential Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights [2] . According to the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights , "Igor Kalyapin is a solid figure, the best expert on problems in Chechnya related to torture and kidnapping." [3] Previously created the Russian-Chechen Friendship Society (RCFS) in Nizhny Novgorod, which in 2006 was liquidated for extremism [4] . The author of the Chechen Diary.

Biography
In 1986-1988 he served in the army. In 1988, he began working at a chemical institute; in 1989, he participated in a democratic and human rights movement.
In 2019, he won a case in the European Court of Human Rights about the illegality of his detention in 2007. [five]
