Biography
Born in 1921 in the family of the owner of a sawmill in the Serboluzhitsky village of Kameny. From 1927 to 1931 he studied at an elementary school in Radibor . Since 1939, he worked in the detachment of the Imperial Labor Service in Seifhennersdorf . From 1940 to 1945 he studied physics and mathematics at the Dresden Technical University under the guidance of German scientists Friedrich Adolf Willers and Heinrich Barkhausen. In 1946, he completed his second diploma work after the materials of the first were destroyed during the bombing of Dresden in February 1945.
In 1948 he defended his thesis for the degree of Doctor of Sciences. Since 1952 - lecturer at Dresden Technical University, since 1953 - professor at the Department of Applied Mathematics of the same university. From 1956 to 1968 - Director of the new Institute for Mechanical Research in Dresden. From 1968 until his retirement in 1986, he headed the Department of Mathematical Cybernetics and Computer Engineering at the Dresden Technical University.
He died in 1988 and was buried in the Striesener Friedhof cemetery.
- Scientific activity
While working at the Dresden Technical University, he was engaged in the development of computer technology, including the first desktop computer manufactured by the GDR. His most significant work is computers of models D1, D2 and D4a. The development of the D5 model was discontinued in 1966.
The computer server developed by Nikolaus Lehmann are in the German Museum in Munich .
