Biography
From the nobles. His grandfather and father bore the title Freicherr . Received a law degree. Actively engaged in political activities.
In 1841, he was one of the founders and leaders of the Croatian-Hungarian party. Opponent of the Illyrian movement.
In 1860, he became one of the leaders of the Unionist Party (successor of the Croatian-Hungarian party), which advocated the reunification of Croatia and Slavonia as part of the Hungarian kingdom .
After the creation of Auto-Hungary, L. Rauch was appointed (initially only temporarily) ban of the Kingdom of Croatia, Dalmatia and Slavonia . In this post, he introduced amendments to the electoral law and managed to hold the majority of union deputies in the Croatian Sabor (parliament) and, thus, in 1868 to facilitate the conclusion of the Hungarian-Croatian agreement .
At his post he used harsh methods of government, limited political freedoms, and opposed the opposition National Party.
Dismissed from the post of ban after allegations of financial abuse.
In 1867 he received the title of baron .
