Biography
Pisinledid's mother was Artemisius I. The name of her son is indicated only in the Byzantine encyclopedia "Courts" . It is of pure Carian origin, in contrast to the name of Artemisia herself. The name of the father of Pisindelid is not called by historical sources . Helmut Berve suggested that his name was Mausoleum. Igor Surikov believes that the husband of Artemisia was the son of Ligdamid I , and, thus, the brother of his own wife. This is not extraordinary, since among the Carian aristocracy such marriages were not uncommon.
Herodotus wrote that in the 480th year BC. e., when Xerxes went on a campaign against Hellas , Pisindelid was very small. Therefore, the fleet of Halicarnassus, as well as a number of neighboring regions, was headed by his mother, who showed decisiveness and prudence during the war.
The court calls the son of Pisindelide Ligdamida II . However, based on the known facts of the chronology of events, such experts as Adolf Scholl , Franz Rühl , Heinrich Stein came to the conclusion that the named rulers of Halicarnassus were brothers. Indeed, in the period between 480 and 454 years (when the policy was already free), as noted by Fyodor Mishchenko , “the Artemisia’s regency and the reign of Pisindelid and the long-term tyranny of Ligdamid should be squeezed.”
