Scientific activity
Specialist in the field of vaccinology, immunology and allergology. One of the priority research areas is the study of cellular mechanisms for the development of post-vaccination immunity and delayed hypersensitivity).
He put forward and experimentally substantiated a new theoretical position on histocompatibility antigens as universal acceptors of antigens and as carriers of antigenic information that determine the immunological identity of a person during vaccination.
He made a great scientific contribution to the study of mediators of the immune response - cytokines that determine the development of immunity. Anti-inflammatory cytokines were found in viral vaccines and other immunobiological preparations by N.V. Medunitsyn and his students, the dynamics of changes in the level of cytokines in infections and vaccinations was studied, the possibility of using cytokines as adjuvants for vaccination against various infectious diseases was shown.
He is developing a new scientific field for the individualization of vaccination, for the use of various methods of correction of the immune response to vaccines in order to ensure sufficient immunity for each vaccinated person.
Under his leadership, 21 dissertations were defended (of which 5 doctoral).
The author of about 450 scientific papers, 7 copyright certificates and patents, 9 monographs.
Deputy editor of the journal "Biologics", member of the editorial boards of several journals, including the journals "Immunology", "Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases."
