Turenne, Jean Louis

Born on August 25, 1944 in the commune of La Mezieres ( department of Ile and Vilen ). In 1973, the professor of mathematics, Jean-Louis Turenne, was first elected to the General Council of the department of Ile and Vilen from the canton of Ede, becoming the youngest adviser. In 1983, he was elected mayor of his native commune La Mezieres and held this post until May 2004, when he resigned due to the inability to combine mandates.

After the cantonal elections of March 28, 2004, when the left for the first time since 1848 received a majority in the General Council of the department of Ile and Vilen, on April 1, 2004 he was elected president of the General Council. He retained this post after the cantonal elections of 2008 and 2011, did not participate in the elections to the new body, the Council of the Department Ile and Vilen , in March 2015.

For the first time, Jean-Louis Touraine fought for the Senator’s mandate from the department of Ile and Vilen in 1998, when he received the most votes from the left candidates, but all four senatorial seats went to the right. In the 2014 elections, he led the left list, which took second place and received two senatorial mandates, one of which went to him. In the Senate, he is a member of the Commission on Social Affairs.
