The National Radio and Television Council was established on October 5, 2002 by Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The main purpose of the Council is to ensure the implementation of state policy in the field of television and radio broadcasting and the regulation of this activity. The order defines the legal, economic and organizational basis for the activities of television and radio, aimed at ensuring the right of everyone to freedom of information, opinion and freedom of expression, open and free discussion. Broadcasting in the Republic of Azerbaijan is carried out by state, municipal, private and public broadcasters. All broadcasters in the Republic of Azerbaijan, regardless of their form of ownership and legal form, have equal rights and bear equal responsibility before the law. General Information about the Council
The main task of the Council is to regulate the activities of television and radio broadcasters, protect the public interest in broadcasting and monitor compliance with the legislation on broadcasting.
The activities of the Council are governed by the “Regulations on the National Broadcasting Council”. The Council is guided by the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, laws of the Republic of Azerbaijan, decrees and orders of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, resolutions and orders of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan and “Regulations on the National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting”. The Council is independent in its activities and financed from the state budget. It is created by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The council consists of 9 people. Three Council members are appointed for two years, three for four years and three for six years. Its members elect their chairman and vice-chairman. Headed by the chairman of the Council.
The Council makes decisions that are binding on broadcasters on issues that are within its competence. In accordance with the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Regulatory Legal Acts, decisions of the National Radio and Television Council are considered regulatory acts. The Board determines the number of employees, appoints its employees and creates structural units within the framework of cost estimates.
