Saint Helier

Saint Helier ( English Saint Helier , French Saint-Hélier , norm . Saint Hélyi , ) - city and port , the capital of the British crown possession of jersey . In the administrative division is equated to one of the twelve parishes of Jersey.

Etymology

The city got its name from St. Helier , a Christian martyr who lived here in the VI century and was killed by pirates . It is believed that he was hacked with axes , which today are depicted on the emblem of the city.
