Geography
It is located 6.5 km southwest of Jicin and 40.5 km northwest of the city center of Hradec Kralove . It borders with the municipalities of Hiijice (from the north-west), Velish (from the north), Stare Misto (from the north-east) and Jicineves (from the south and east). It is connected by bus with the city of Jicin (the stop is located on the south side of the municipality). The Jicineves stop at the Jicin - Nymburk railway line is nearby.
Attractions
- Catholic church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary with a belfry, probably from 1717-1721 [1] .
- Column with a statue of the immaculately conceived Virgin Mary , dating from the middle of the XVIII century.
- Column with a statue of St. John of Nepomuk .
History
The church was first mentioned in 1320, although some details on the side medieval portal can be dated to the middle of the XIII century [2] .
From 1960 to 1990, Kostelec was part of the Jicineves municipality, the rest of the time it was an independent municipality [3] .

According to the 2011 census, 40 residents lived in the village (of which 34 were Czech and 5 did not indicate their nationality, in 2001 - 90.5% of Czechs, 4.8% of Slovaks and 4.8% of Roma [10] ), of which 18 were men and 22 women (mean age 44.6 years). Out of 33 people over 14 years old, 1 had no education, 10 had basic (including incomplete) education, 17 had secondary education, including students (7 of them had a certificate of maturity ), 2 had a higher education (masters).
Out of 40 people, 17 were economically active (including 1 working pensioner), 21 were inactive (12 unemployed pensioners, 4 dependents and 5 students). Of the 17 employees, 4 worked in industry, 3 in education, 2 in agriculture and in trade and car repair, one each in the transport and storage industry, in computer science and communications, and in real estate, scientific and administrative spheres [11] .
