It is located 7 km north of the village of Velikoye , 13 km north-north-west of Gavrilov-Yam and 24 km south-south-west of the center of Yaroslavl . There are small forests nearby, and the Kotorosl River flows 1.7 km to the east. There is an access road from the village of Velikoye, continuing north to Popovka .

There is no school in the village. There is a food car shop [3] . The church building has been preserved (built at the beginning of the 19th century) [4] .

According to local legend, the name of the village was given by Catherine II , angry at the dirt in the village [5] .
