IIHF World Ice Hockey Championship 2009 among the youth teams of the II Division - IIHF IIHF ice hockey competition held from December 15 to 21, 2008 in Miercurea-Ciuc ( Romania ) (group A) and from 10 to January 15, 2009 in Logrono ( Spain ) (group B). Group winners were eligible to play in Group B of the first division of the 2010 World Cup . The teams that took the last places in the groups moved to the third division of the 2010 World Cup .

Participating Teams
The championship was attended by 12 national teams - eight from Europe , three from Asia and one from North America . The national teams of Great Britain and Lithuania came from the first division . The national team of Serbia came from the third division , the rest - from the last tournament of the second division . The Icelandic national team flew into the third division. The New Zealand national team refused to participate in the tournament due to funding problems and the Chinese national team was invited instead, which retained its place in the second division [1] .
