History
The name of the village of Zamult, as well as the river and mountains in the Republic of Altai, toponymy connects with the Altai concept of “washed away, sumult” - clan, offspring, horde. [3]
Often travelers confuse two settlements: Mult and Zamult, since they are located nearby, they have a common trading network. The village of Multa is located on one side of the river, while Zamulta is on the opposite bank, away from the road, in the village there is a more calm and quiet measured life.
The atmosphere of the old life was preserved there, the village is an unofficial center of the Old Believer way of life. The ancestors of the villagers came to this place in the 18th century from central Russia, where they lived in a village that stood on the Nizhny Novgorod river Kerzhenets , therefore they were called Kerzhaks.
Many residents of Zamult are still Old Believers-Bespopovites, do not recognize the rites of the Orthodox Church, nor priests, pray only at community meetings.
At the entrance to Zamult, on the hillock, is the wooden church of Elijah the Prophet (Elijah Old Believer Church). Some of the Old Believers of a quiet Zamulta do not recognize the “priestly” church, mainly believers from other villages come there, but some residents crossed themselves into the priests of the “Belokrinitsky consent” [4]
General information
Residents of Zamult are raising cattle, sheep, and poultry on farms. The way of life of Kerzhaks, established for centuries, has not changed much: people are engaged in cattle breeding, plant vegetables in gardens, keep bees in apiaries, also reject alcohol and tobacco, drink tea with herbs. The most important thing is that the community has remained committed to traditions: in the 21st century, Old Believers still gather for meetings where services are conducted according to old Old Believer books.
There is television in the village - 20 channels in digital broadcasting.
