Charles de Gaulle Square ( Roman: Piața Charles de Gaulle ) is an area located in the northern part of Bucharest at the intersection of Aviator Boulevards, Constantine Presan and Primavera.

Title
Initially, the square was named after Hajduk , one of the leaders of the Wallach uprising, - Zhanu Square ( roman. Piața Jianu ). In 1940 it was renamed Adolf Hitler Square ( roman. Piața Adolf Hitler ), but in 1944, shortly after Romania joined the anti-Hitler coalition , the original name was returned to the square [1] .
In 1948, in connection with the Soviet occupation of Romania, the square was named after Joseph Stalin - the square of Generalissimo I.V. Stalin ( room Piața Generalissim IV Stalin ), and in 1951, a monument to the Soviet leader was erected at the entrance to the Herrestrau park . After the death of Stalin and the exposure of his cult in 1962, the statue was demolished, and the square was renamed the Aviator Square ( room Piața Aviatorilor ), since a was located nearby [1] .
After the fall of communism in 1989, against the backdrop of Romanian-French friendship, the square received the name of Charles de Gaulle , the first president of the Fifth Republic and one of the symbols of the French Resistance to the Nazi occupation - Charles de Gaulle Square ( Roman Piața Charles de Gaulle ) [1] .
Description
To the northwest of the square is the Park of King Mihai I ; 100 meters to the northeast - the headquarters of the Romanian Broadcasting Corporation . To the south-east of the square is .
In 1997, the [1] was erected in the center of the square. On September 23, 2006, during the Francophonie Summit in Bucharest, a bronze Charles de Gaulle was erected at the entrance to the Herraestra Park [2] .
