Formation history
The brigade was formed from the 42nd separate Guards Tank Regiment of the 3rd Guards Mechanized Corps based on the Directive of the Deputy NKO No. UF / 2/831 of April 20, 1943 and the order of the BTV of the Southern Front No. 0066 of April 23, 1943 [1] . The formation took place from April 26 to May 2, 1943 in the village of Astakhovo, Voroshilovgrad region as part of the 4th Guards Mechanized Corps .
Until July 1944, the 36th Guards Tank Brigade had standard tactical designations in their vehicles in the form of squares with the number “7” inside. In August 1944, when it was necessary to hide the belonging of the equipment to the mechanized body, the typical signs were replaced by the silhouette of a bear walking on its hind legs with letters denoting belonging to a subdivision (“RR” - reconnaissance) and personal numbers or names ) [2] .

Post War Story
In July 1945, the 4th Guards Mechanized Corps of the Southern Group of Forces was transformed into the 4th Guards Mechanized Division (military unit 28345) [9] , on July 9, 1945 the 36th Guards Tank Brigade was transformed into the 36th Guards Tank the regiment of this division (military unit 61440) [10] [11] . Until 1948, the regiment as part of the division was stationed in the People's Republic of Bulgaria . Since 1948, the division was part of the 14th Guards Rifle Corps of the Kiev Military District .
On June 4, 1957, the 4th Guards Mechanized Division was transformed into the 63rd Guards Motorized Rifle Division (military unit 28345) of the 6th Guards Tank Army, with the city of Luhansk deployed, and the 36th Guards Tank Regiment was renamed 304- th Guards Tank Regiment (military unit 61440) of this division [11] .
On November 17, 1968, the division returned the number of the Great Patriotic War times - the 4th Guards Motorized Rifle Division [12] . In early 1982, the 304th Guards Regiment within the division was redeployed from Voroshilovgrad to the city of Termez of the Turkestan Military District , where it remained until the withdrawal of troops and Afghanistan [13] .
Memory
In 1968, when repairing the T-34 tank, on the inner wall of the tower a copper plate was found covered in paint, where the inscription "from father Shulgi to son Kisenko", "Sormovsky plant" and the car number remained. It was decided to send the car to the city of Voroshilovgrad , where the 4th Guards Motorized Rifle Division was stationed at that time. By decision of the local regional committee of the party and the command of the 4th Guards Motorized Rifle Division, the tank was installed on the Ostra Grave as a monument to the valiant warriors of the Great Patriotic War and rear workers.
