Biography
Born in St. Petersburg in the family of an official. He was kept in the Educational School at the Imperial Academy of Arts, where he received his initial education. He studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts (1788-1803). Pupil F. Ya. Alekseev . He was awarded the IAH medals: a small gold medal for the program “Jupiter punishes one village except Philemon and Bavkida” (1802); certificate of the 1st degree with a sword (1803); the title of academician IAH (1807) for the painting "View of the city of Selenginsk . " Advisor to the Academy of Arts for landscape painting (1815). Inspector of the Imperial Academy of Arts (1818-1824). [one]
He was sent (1804), as a draftsman, with the expedition of Count Yu. A. Golovkin to China, spent two years in Siberia and gathered there a rich supply of materials for the numerous views of this region, which he later wrote. In the Museum of the Academy there are two paintings of his kind: "View of the Nikolaev pier at the confluence of the river. Hangars in Lake Baikal ” and “ View of Krasnoyarsk ” . [2]
During the Patriotic War of 1812, he was in the militia with a company commander. Later he continued to paint urban and rural landscapes, including with views of Siberian lands. Received the title of adviser to the Academy of Arts for Landscape Painting (1815) for the painting "View of Lake Baikal" . [3]
He died in 1838 in St. Petersburg. Vasiliev’s works are stored in the Russian Museum and the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.
