Melahat Ruajan (surname at birth Senger ; 1906-1974) is a Turkish judge, the first female judge of the Turkish Supreme Court and the first woman in the world to join the higher court [1] [2] .

Biography
The first child of Colonel Nuri and his wife Guzide [3] . She graduated from the women's lyceum Erenkoy [4] , then studied philosophy at Istanbul University . After, at the decision of Ataturk, the capital of the republic was moved to Ankara , a new university was created there - Ankara . After that, Melahat Senger moved to Ankara and entered it. She studied at the Law Faculty of Ankara University from 1925 to 1929. In 1938, Melahat married Rasym Ruajan, they had a son [3] .
After graduation, she worked as a judge. In 1945, she became the first woman appointed as a member of the Turkish Supreme Court of Appeal [2] [4] . Since Ruajan always made decisions based on laws, not political preferences of the authorities, she was forced to resign during the reign of the Democratic Party . Later, she challenged her dismissal in court and was reinstated, and compensation was paid to her [3] .
She died in 1974 in Ankara from a heart attack [3] .
