History
Community Life and Synagogue Construction
The Jewish community of the city has been known since the 14th century . Local Jews were engaged in craft, mediation, and trade. At the beginning of the 16th century , the Lubel Jews had the need to build a large stone synagogue . A synagogue was built in 1510 in the center of the Jewish quarter. The Lyubomlsk synagogue became one of the best architectural structures of that time and was mentioned in all ancient books. Significant funds were needed for the construction of such a magnificent structure, so the locals borrowed them from the Kholm Roman Bishop .
In 1918 , during the Austro-Hungarian occupation, the Luboml Magistrate ordered a series of stamps with views of Luboml in Prague . One of them depicted a synagogue.
Destruction
During the German-Soviet war , in October 1942 , the Nazis destroyed almost all the local Jews (up to 5,000 people). Only a few dozen Jews survived [1] . After the Second World War , Soviet power was established in Luboml . By her order in 1947 , the synagogue was dismantled into a brick, which paved the road. Only the foundation remained in the earth. Back in Soviet times, a store was built at about the place where the synagogue was located. Detailed archaeological research was not carried out, only once accidentally dug up the foundation of the buttress .
