The village was formed at the beginning of the XX century. Already in 1911, about 100 houses were built in Priedain. Priedaine is a summer residence for the well-to-do strata of the population; it was included in the then Jurmala district of Riga in 1949 . In Soviet times , production developed here (a section of a peat factory, a plant for reinforced concrete structures) and the construction of apartments. A school and a house of culture were built.

The White Dune ( Latvian. Baltā kāpa ) - a natural monument of national importance - is located 4 km from the Priedaine railway station , on the shore of Lielupe . The dune has formed over the past two hundred years, perpendicular to the sea . The length of the dune is 800 m, the height is 15-17 m. The reason for the formation of the dune was the breakthrough of the Isthmus by the Lielupe River in 1757, which formed a new place for the river to flow into the sea. From here, a view of Lielupe, Stirnu Rags and Bullupe opens.

The railway bridge was built repeatedly. The first bridge, destroyed during the First World War , dates back to 1875-1876; in 1922 it was restored. It was blown up during the fighting on October 14, 1944, and was restored after 5 years. In 1986-1888 The railway bridge was reconstructed. The construction of the motor bridge was completed in 1962.
