Thomsen, Thue Björn

Tue Bjørn Thomsen ( Dat. Tue Bjørn Thomsen ; December 21, 1972 , Aasiaat - April 23, 2006 , Copenhagen ) - Danish boxer , representative of the heavy weight category. He played for the Danish boxing team in the mid-1990s, bronze medalist of the World Cup, winner and medalist of tournaments of international importance. In the period 1997-2002 he also boxed at a professional level.

Biography

Thue Björn Thomsen was born December 21, 1972 in the city of Aasiaat , Greenland .

Amateur career

He first made his name in the 1996 season by winning the Copenhagen Cup and the international tournament in Greece.

In 1997, he won a bronze medal at the international Tammer tournament in Finland, won silver at the Multi Nations tournament in England, and won the BoxAm tournament in Spain. Once in the main team of the Danish national team, he took part in the world championship in Budapest , from where he brought the bronze dignity prize won in the classification of the first heavy weight category - there were three opponents in the tournament bracket, after which he was defeated at the semi-finals by the titled Cuban Felix Savon [1] .

Professional career

Leaving the location of the Danish national team, in December 1997, Thomsen successfully debuted on a professional level. For a long time he did not know defeats, although he boxed exclusively in the Danish home rings, and the level of his opposition was not very high.

In November 1998, he won on points the American veteran Airen Barkley (43-13-1).

In 1999, he won the vacant Danish Heavyweight Championship.

In March 2000, he defeated American Nate Miller (31-7) by technical solution, becoming the owner of the World Boxing Council (IBC) world champion title.

The first and only defeat in his professional career was in May 2000 - by knockout from a little-known representative of South Africa, Jacob Mofoken (19-6-1).

Subsequently, he spent four more fights, including defeating a fairly strong American boxer Rob Calloway (39-3).

He died on April 23, 2006, having received stab wounds in a fight in one of the bars in the center of Copenhagen [2] .
