Unlike The Secret History , which consists of a variety of documents compiled by Major Garland Briggs, The Last Dossier contains a series of 18 reports from Tamara Preston, a special-purpose FBI agent written after the events of the series . The dossiers reveal the stories of several characters that were not fully disclosed in the television series or the previous book, and also clarify some of the apparent differences between them [1] . The book contains 18 dossiers:
- Shelley Johnson
- Horns and Haywards
- Donna Hayward
- Ben and Audrey Horn
- Jerry Horn
- Double R
- Annie blackburn
- Windom earl
- Return to Twin Peaks
- Miss Twin Peaks
- Dr. Lawrence Jacobi
- Margaret Coulson
- Sheriff Harry Truman
- Major Briggs
- Phillip Jeffries
- Judy
- Ray Monroe
- Today
At the conclusion of the report, Tamara Preston writes that the time frame around them has changed: the residents of Twin Peaks believe that Laura Palmer disappeared, was never found dead. Preston hurriedly leaves the city, as her memory begins to cloud and her previous knowledge of the Palmer case begins to fade [2] .
Reviews
Stuart Kelly of commented on the piece: “Like the television version, there is a disturbing balance between Gothic horror and buffoonery comedy.” The critic sees in the book an allusion to modern America with its idyll that never existed [3] .
According to NPR Glen Weldon, “The last dossier is the whole story, actually reads like a“ biblical story ”created by television show runners to create a narrative universe of the series filled with good substantiated things that didn't bother“ The Return ”" [1] .
