Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence ( Rus. Everything you wanted to know about silence ) is the debut studio album of the American posthardcore group Glassjaw , released on May 9, 2000 via Roadrunner Records . Ross Robinson claimed that the label did not show interest in the group until he demanded to sign a contract with them [7] .

The album would be noted for its general anger and negative tone in terms of lyrics. The title track on the disc is written about intestinal disorder [8] , which was diagnosed by vocalist Daryl Palambo in 1996 [9] . Most of the songs are dedicated to the topic of bad relationships, and due to the unusual nature of the lyrics, the group was accused of misogyny . In 2012, the group made a statement condemning their lyrics [10] . In the sound of the disc, the influence of the New York hardcore was noticeable [11] ; in particular, the elements of the youth crew’s hardcore style of the 1980s were present in the group, and the group of Youth of Today was the most influential factor affecting the overall sound Glassjaw [12] .
March 24, 2009 the album was remastered [13] . This version includes additional compositions: a demo version of “Convectuoso” and a cover version of the song “Modern Love Story” by Youth of Today [13] . The album was released in a limited edition of 10,000 vinyl copies [14] .

About the album
Background
Glassjaw was founded in 1993 by members Daryl Palambo and Justin Beck in a summer camp where both worked [15] . For several years, the group recorded demos and mini-albums , and during this time the composition of the group underwent multiple changes. Their composition was finally staffed by 1999, the year the group included guitarist Todd Weinstock , bassist Manuel Carrero and drummer Sammy Ziegler . In this composition, the group will reserve a studio for recording a demo album with local producer Don Fury; later this record will be in the hands of Ross Robinson . Ross was impressed by the demo of the group and he met with the group at their rehearsal with a proposal to play in his studio Indigo Ranch; Ross persuaded Roadrunner Records to sign Glassjaw. [8]
Record
The recording of the album lasted about two months [8] . While the material on the album was written by the group before production began, Ross had a strong influence on the group in terms of arranging the songs “Pretty Lush” and “Hurting and Shoving (She Should Have Let Me Sleep)” [15] . The album contains many musical elements that were written in parallel projects by Glassjaw members. As Ross later said in 2000: “during the recording of the album, our goal was to destroy the Adidas rock”, meaning nu metal bands like Korn and Limp Bizkit [16] .
Criticism Reviews
Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence received generally positive reviews. Absolute Punk commentator praised the songs “Pretty Lush” and “Piano”, but noted the frenetic content in the lyrics on some songs and criticized the track “Babe” [5] . In a retrospective review of the album, Metal Sucks reviewer Mike Gitter praised the album. Gitter wrote that “Glassjaw was a slap in the face, as a last resort” and called the album a landmark [17] . The NME compared the album to “ Jeff Buckley napalm crawling around a room full of broken glass” [4] .
