About the cartoon
In the 50s Atamanov puts on his widely known films - fairy tales “The Scarlet Flower ” (1952) by S. Aksakov, “ Golden Antelope ” (1953) based on Indian fairy tales, “The Snow Queen ” (1957) according to G.-X . Andersen.
In his films, the director is able to masterfully convey the national flavor and especially the folklore of those countries where fairy tales were created. So, in the “Golden Antelope” the atmosphere of an Indian fairy tale is conveyed. The images of the boy and the antelope themselves are not devoid of fairytale charm, it is poetically told of their disinterested friendship. The image of Raji greatly benefited from the fact that he was voiced by first-class actor Ruben Simonov. The film was dubbed in France and, as far as I know, was a success.
- Asenin S.V. [9]
In the Golden Antelope, Raju was played by Ruben Nikolaevich Simonov. They put a turban and a bathrobe on him, and he walked with bent arms behind his back, as his hero later appeared on the screen. Simonov brought a lot to this role - a characteristic gait, gestures, intonations. So we created an external image ..
- From an interview with the artist Leonid SHVARTSMAN, 2003 [10]
The Golden Antelope is a true animation masterpiece ... Sharp laconic dialogues, expressive characters, primarily the image of the insatiable sly Raja are remembered ...
