Argiris Gavalas ( date and place of birth unknown - 1998, Limassol , Cyprus ) - Greek footballer, soccer referee and coach. Known as the first head coach of the Cyprus national team .

Biography
He played for the Greek Panathinaikos as a football player.
In 1932 he moved to Cyprus, where he became the head coach of the AEL club (Limassol) , where he worked for 22 years. During his work with AEL, Gavalas brought up a large number of talented football players, and also twice won the championship with the team and three times the Cyprus Cup. In 1954 he left AEL due to disagreements with the leadership. In 1956 he headed the newly created Apollo (Limassol) , which coached until 1962.
In addition to working in clubs, Gavalas also coached the occasionally formed Cyprus national teams. In 1960, he was appointed head coach for the first official match of the Cyprus national team against the Israeli national team , which was played on November 13 and ended with a score of 1: 1. On November 27, Cyprus lost to Israel in a return match 1: 6 and ended the fight for access to the 1962 World Cup . Under his leadership, the Cyprus national team played 13 matches and won two victories in friendly matches with Greece and Lebanon . Gavalas led the national team for 7 years and left his post in 1967. Until now, he is the champion in the number of years at the helm of the team.
Gavalas was also a football referee. He was the chief arbiter of the three Cyprus Cup finals in 1947, 1949 and 1950.
