Nurzhan Dinikulovich Smanov (born February 17, 1972 , Abai ) - Soviet and Kazakhstan boxer , a representative of the medium weight categories. Biography

Nurzhan Smanov was born on February 17, 1972 in the village of Abai of the South Kazakhstan region of the Kazakh SSR .

He made his debut on the international stage in the 1988 season, winning the junior tournament in Bratislava. A year later, as part of the Soviet national team, he won a bronze medal at the World Junior Championships in Puerto Rico. A year later, he marked a victory at the European Junior Championship in Czechoslovakia, became the silver medalist of the Junior World Championship in Peru, losing to the Cuban Ariel Hernandez in the final final match of the light welterweight championship.

In 1991, he rose to welterweight and won a silver medal at the Games of the Peoples of the USSR in Minsk , losing in the final to Andrei Pestryayev .

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Smanov joined the national team of Kazakhstan. For example, in 1993, he performed at the World Championships in Tampere , where he was stopped by the Cuban boxer Juan Hernandez Sierra at the quarter-finals stage.

In 1994, he won the Asian Championships in Tehran and the Asian Games in Hiroshima , spoke at the World Cup in Bangkok.

At the 1995 World Championship in Berlin, he dropped out of the fight for medals already in the 1/8 finals, losing to Turk Ercumento Aslan . At the same time, he won a silver medal at the Asian Championship in Tashkent - in the final he was defeated by Uzbek Nariman Ataev .

In 1996, he won bronze at the Chemistry Cup in Halle and, thanks to a series of successful performances, was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the Atlanta Summer Olympics - in the category up to 67 kg, he successfully passed the first two rivals in the tournament grid, while in the third quarterfinal fight with a score of 8 : 16 was defeated by Juan Hernandez of Sierra.

After the Olympics, Smanov remained in the boxing team of Kazakhstan and continued to take part in major international competitions. So, in 1997, he became the silver medalist of the Chemistry Cup, losing in the final to the Ukrainian Sergey Dzinziruka , boxed at the World Championships in Budapest , where he met Juan Hernandez Sierra at the preliminary stage and lost to him again.

In 1998, he won a silver medal at the Asian Games in Bangkok , losing in the final to Thai Parkpumu Chengphonak , and performed at the Goodwill Games in New York , where he was stopped by the quarter-finals by American Jermaine Taylor .

In 1999 he took the bronze at the international tournament “Giraldo Cordova Cardin” in Santa Clara, he noted his performance at the world championship in Houston - reached the quarterfinal here and lost to the Italian Leonard Bund [1] .

For outstanding sporting achievements, he was awarded the honorary title " Honored Master of Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan " (1995).

He graduated from the Kazakh Institute of Chemical Technology (1994), Kh.A. Yassavi International Kazakh-Turkish University (1998) and Shymkent Social and Pedagogical University (2008).

At the end of his sports career in the period 2000–2008, he worked as head of the collection and security service at Kazkommertsbank . Since 2008 heads the department of physical culture and sports of the city of Shymkent .

A traditional boxing tournament for the prizes of Nurzhan Smanov is held annually in the village of Abay [2] .
