Mother-of-pearl Palez [1] ( lat. Boloria pales ) is a species of butterflies from the nymphalid family . Fore wing length 18 - 21 mm.

Name Origin
Pales ( Roman mythology ) - the goddess patroness of shepherds and cattle [2] .
Range
Mountains of Central and Southern Europe ( Pyrenees , Alps , Apennines , mountains of the Balkan Peninsula , Eastern and Southern Carpathians . In Eastern Europe, the species inhabits the Tatras (in Poland and Slovakia ), Romania (Eastern and Southern Carpathians) [1] .
Butterflies are found in alpine and subalpine meadows at altitudes from 1,500 to 2,700 meters above sea level. Findings of the species in the forest belt at altitudes of 1200 meters above sea level are also known [1] .
Biology
Over a year, one generation develops. The flight time lasts from late June to August inclusive. Butterflies are found on flowering mountain slopes, as well as along the banks of rivers and streams. Caterpillar feed plants: violet ( Viola sp.), Viola calcarata [1] .
