? - The second studio album of the American rapper XXXTentacion and the last, released during his lifetime. It was released on March 16, 2018 under the label Bad Vibes Forever, Caroline Distribution and Capitol Music Group [6] [7] . The album was mainly produced by frequent co-author John Cunningham and includes collaborations with PnB Rock, Matt OX, Travis Barker and Joey Badass and others.

The album debuted in first place on the US Billboard 200 , becoming Ax's first album to take first place on the US album chart [6] . On August 7, 2018, the album was certified by the RIAA as platinum. He was supported by three singles: “ Sad! ”,“ Changes ”and“ Moonlight ”. After the death of XXXTentacion on June 18, 2018 [8] , Sad! Took first place on several charts, including the Billboard Hot 100 .

History

XXXTentacion released his debut studio album 17 in August 2017 [9] with commercial success [10] . After the release of the album, he announced that he was leaving the music due to negativity [11] , although he ultimately signed a $ 6 million album contract with Caroline Distribution [12] and released A Ghetto Christmas Carol mini-album on SoundCloud on December 11 2017 year. [13]

Following the release of A Ghetto Christmas Carol, XXXTentacion announced that it was preparing three new albums [14] and ultimately announced the album names Bad Vibes Forever , Skins and?, After being released under house arrest on December 23, 2017. [fifteen]

The track list and release date were confirmed by XXXTentacion on March 12, 2018 on social networks. [16] [17]

Songs

The songs on the album were released in various musical genres, such as acoustic, emo , indie rock , old-school hip hop and trap [18] [19] [20] [21] . The song “I Don't Even Speak Spanish LOL” was in reggaeton style [18] , while “Infinity (888)” is a “classic hip hop song”. [22]

Promotion

The cover was first shown on the Instagram stories of XXXTentacion on January 28, 2018 with the signature “Coming Soon”. Later that day, he explained that:

 This album is not about words, it is about feelings ... it will be very difficult to understand, but very easy to listen to ... this is not what you expect, even if you feel that you understand my music, be prepared not to understand this music 

XXXTentacion released the song “Hope” on his SoundCloud account on February 21, 2018, dedicated to shooting survivors at Stoneman Douglas High School [23] [24] . Hope was released shortly after XXXTentacion hosted a charity show [25] and expressed its condolences to the victims of the shooting [26] . On February 25, 2018, following the release of Hope, XXXTentacion posted vague social media posts accusing Canadian rapper Drake of threatening to kill him along with rude photos of Drake. [27] [28]

Singles

The lead single “Sad!” And “Changes” were released on March 1, 2018, for streaming and downloading [29] . “Sad!” Debuted at number 17 and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 , becoming the first XXXTentacion single to reach No. 1 and becoming its most successful single to date [30] . While “Changes” debuted at number 47 in the week beginning March 13, 2018 and reached No. 18. The third single from the album “Moonlight” was released posthumously on rhythmic radio on August 14, 2018. [31] [32]
