Etymology
The species is named after the German anthropologist , ethno-historian Eduard Seler ( Eduard Georg Seler , 1849-1922), who first discovered this plant.
Biological Description
The leaves are 9-18 cm long, with curled edges, thick, xeromorphic , their vaginas are greatly expanded and form a kind of large “bulb”, inside which ants usually settle.
Inflorescence is a rare brush consisting of individual spikelets. Bracteans are red or pink. The flowers are about 3.2 cm long (given the length of the gynoecium and stamens ), the petals are dark blue or purple.
Distribution and Ecology
It is found in Central America ( Nicaragua ) and southern Mexico , in dry pine-oak forests. Epiphyte grows on large trees (mainly on pine trees ), often “upside down” or almost parallel to the soil surface, which prevents the accumulation of moisture at the growth point.
