John Patrick Rourke ( born John Patrick Rourke , born March 26 , 1942 ) is a South African botanist . works in the Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden ( Cape Town ), curator of the Compton Herbarium. Specialist in the flora of the Cape region , especially plants of the Proteus family (Proteaceae).

Biography
He graduated from Cape Town University , where he also received a Ph.D. In 1972 he became the curator of the Compton herbarium.
He has published several papers on changes in the Proteus genera, including Leucadendron , Leucospermum , Mimetes , Vexatorella , Sorocephalus and Spatalla [1]
In 1997 he became a foreign member of the London Linnaean Society .
The following species are named after John Rourke: Cleretum rourkei , Grubbia rourkei , Watsonia rourkei , Leucadendron rourkei , Galium rourkei , Acmadenia rourkeana, and Diosma rourkei . [2] .
