History
The word “arzhaan” (among the Mongols and Buryats - “arshan”, among the Kirghiz - “arashan”) is rooted in the ancient Sanskrit language and means holy or healing water. In the traditional life of Tuvans, the cult of Arzhaans was great: they linked the health of the body and spirit of both the individual and the family as a whole. Usually, arzhaans were discovered by lamas - doctors, shamans or “knowledgeable people” (apparently psychics) who sanctified sources at the confluence of the people, gave advice on what ailments and afflictions to heal and, most importantly, how to heal.
