In August 2018, bassist Henkka Seppälä announced that the band’s tenth studio work, including ten songs, will be released in March next year. ^[four]

On November 28, 2018, the exact release date was set for March 8, 2019.

Children of Bodom frontman Alexi Layho commented: “People say the album is generally memorable. So I started to think about it, maybe the structure of the songs is easier to understand at first listening. But there is some kind of crazy shit, almost progressive, or at least technical. There are certain melodies on the album that could come from jazz songs, although they are, of course, completely metal . ”

“It has always been very difficult for me to describe our new music ,” comments bassist Henkka Seppälä. “In a way, everything always seems familiar, but at the same time, new material is always a surprise to me. We have something here that sounds very Bodom, but for some reason we did not do anything like this, perhaps never. Again, someone said that the new album has a somewhat similar atmosphere to “Follow The Reaper”. I dont know. In any case, it was very difficult for us to choose songs for the video. I think this is a positive problem. ”

“Hexed” was a return to Danger Johnny Studios, where Children of Bodom again collaborated with Mikko Carmila (“I Worship Chaos”, “Halo Of Blood”, “Hatebreeder”, “Follow The Reaper” and “Hate Crew Deathroll”), which recorded all parts except keyboards, and is also an album producer with the group. Janne Wirman recorded his parts at Beyond Abilities Studios, and mixing and mastering the new material was done at Finnvox Studios, Helsinki, Finland.

To cover the cover, the group invited Denis Forkas. Henkka's bass player comments on the cover as follows: “For several years now I wanted to try a new approach to our design. We are so used to digital covers that it’s hard to decide on something else. Doing everything on a computer is convenient and simple. This time we agreed to try the old school approach. We found this cool dude and gave him simple instructions - the cover should be purple, and in the center it should be death with a scythe. Six months later, we got his work, and twisting it slightly, we got the cover of 'Hexed'. It is very different from what we are used to, even our Reaper looks different, but at the same time, very sinister. " ^[five]

On December 7, 2018, the video for the song “Under Grass And Clover” was presented on the official YouTube channel Nuclear Blast Records ^[6] .

On February 1, the second single “This Road” was released, the lyrics-video for this song was also published on the label’s YouTube channel ^[7] .

• This is the second (after Relentless Reckless Forever ) album, which does not have a song with the word Bodom in the title.
• The album contains a re-recorded version of the song “Knuckleduster” from the 2004 Trashed, Lost & Strungout mini-album.
• Knuckleduster (Remix) from the extended album includes “Hidden Track”.
