Geography and Ethnography
The Biombo region is - following the metropolitan district of Bissau - the smallest in the country in area. At the same time, population density is one of the highest. In the local Creole dialect, which is based on the Portuguese language, the region is also called Tchon di Pépel , that is, "Land of Ashes " - by the name of the people that make up the majority of the population of Biombo. In addition to the ashes themselves, a mandinka , a manjago , and a bidet also live here.
In the north, Biombo district borders with Kasheu district, in the east - Oyo district, in the extreme southeast - with the metropolitan district of Bissau. In the west and south, the territory of Biombo is washed by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean . The Rio Mansoa River also runs through the county to the ocean. The climate is hot and humid. Biombo is famous for its mango groves.
Administratively, the territory is divided into three sectors: Kinyamel , Prabis and Safim .
Religion
Most of the population of Biombo County adhere to local animistic beliefs, the smaller part - Catholics.
Economics
The basis of the local economy is agriculture, as well as fishing. Biongo supplies its rice, mangoes and oysters to the country's capital. In addition, palm oil and hip wine, cashew nut and sugarcane products are produced here.
From traditional crafts, the manufacture of metal goods and fabrics is developed here.
